Mackenzie bunks is easily found on the banks of the River Forth overlooking the stunning sea view across to the Kingdom of Fife. Our location is unique - there are not many other holiday location quite like it; the centre of Edinburgh's famous Princes Street is only a short bus ride away so leave the car at Mackenzie bunks and have a car free day to explore Edinburgh, there is no free parking in the centre of the city. Many of the places of interest in Edinburgh are within a walking distance of each other and the bus service LRT( Lothian regional transport ) is very good.
The local area; Mackenzie Bunks is located on the boundary of Edinburgh and Musselburgh in East Lothian. With this unique location on the beach, you have a short walk to the harbour where there is a very clean and fun, children's, sandy play area next to a convenient ice cream van which sells hot food and other goodies. A little bit further on you will find a street with at least 15 carry out food shops including a chip shop and a popular, award winning, local bar called the volunteer arms which sells several guest real Ales and malts. Alternatively walk in the opposite direction and take a nice walk into Edinburgh's sea side town of Portobello where there is a safe promenade for children to walk freely onto the beach. There are several restaurants, cafes, and amusement arcades along the way. Just behind Mackenzie Bunks there is Newhailes estate which makes a fun walk especially for the dog. Newhailes has a large old Manor house which can be visited with a guide and there is a café for the end of the tour. There are several golf courses nearby including the Royal Musselburgh golf course. With an estuary in front of our house, the view is filled with various birds, which makes the location very popular with bird watchers.
